Hello, my name is Ruth.

Fitness and nutrition have been a long time passion for me,
so combining the two in Surpassing You is the perfect fit!

My personal mission is to empower you to be your absolute best
in mind, body and spirit,  utilizing my gifts to help others feel confident in and of themselves! Working with individuals grants me the unique blessing of constantly learning and growing as a coach and person through their hard work and dedication.

Surpassing You Nutrition & Fitness is about empowering you
to become the best version of yourself, mentally, and physically. Dedicated to your success, I am a trustworthy, compassionate and goal-oriented nutrition and fitness coach. I believe in combining a scientific and holistic approach to nutrition, focusing on healthy habit-building to improve your relationship with food and your body!

I combine these healthy habits with Nutrition, Accountability, and Movement
to support you in your goals. I don’t succeed unless you do, so I utilize a collaborative approach to help you look and feel your best!

Proper nutrition (balancing your fruits, vegetables, lean protein and fat sources) is more than just “eating right!” We tackle the ultimate struggle of fueling our bodies with whole-food nutrition and what that looks like day-by-day. I incorporate a scientific and holistic approach to your nutrition (whether you have sensitivities or allergies) as we also address hydration, stress, recovery, and everything in between! Together, we’ll work within and outside of your comfort zone, providing you with education and support needed for change and results.

Accountability

What does “Accountability” mean for you? I meet you wherever you are and together, we will set goals and learn healthy, life-long behaviors to support and sustain those goals. Using technology to aid in accountability through my custom app, where we can set and track nutrition and habit goals together. Through weekly check-ins and 1:1 phone calls/zoom sessions, we will work through your struggles and celebrate your successes! You have my guarantee that I am fully dedicated to you and your success and that also requires your 100% dedication as well!

Movement

Movement and activity is a key factor in your health, longevity and success! How do you incorporate purposeful movement into your daily life and what does that look like for you? It is different for everyone and together we will assess what you are currently doing in the realm of fitness and move toward your goals. We’ll find more ways to add daily movement, whether that be walking or adding to your daily steps, trying a new fitness program/workout, or utilizing my programmed workouts into your weekly schedule.

I started working with Ruth 9 months ago with 2 goals: to run a half marathon again and to increase my overall fitness level after slowly gaining weight and having some health concerns.
Training
I met with Ruth three times a week in the mornings before work which included 2 days of strength training and 1 day of running with her (for speed workwhich I found tough to do on my own).
Nutrition
When I started, I was not eating enough calories or enough quality foods to appropriately fuel my body for training and running. Once I got myself on track with the nutrition plan, I felt a major shift in my energy levels both while exercising and not. I was also very surprised to find that I could have a higher calorie diet of the right foods and still lose weight.
Where I am today:
I turned 50 on Tuesday.
I ran the 3M Half Marathon this morning for the first time in 16 years and beat my past personal best time by 10 minutes.
I have lost a total of 40 pounds, with 20 of those while working with Ruth.
My blood pressure is back to my normal range after creeping up enough that my doctor expressed concern.
My resting heart rate is down to 60 bpm after being in the 70s.
I have learned what habits/practices take off pounds or maintain my weight (or cause me to gain) which has made me feel both in control and confident about my ability to take pounds off.
My healthier eating has not just made me feel better, but has also reduced my stress-induced acid reflux.
My family and I had a very tough 2022 and one of the things that pulled me through was exercising and working with Ruth.
Not once in my time training with Ruth did I not want to go. It made me happy to see Ruth and talk and also, I was doing something for myself!
